2020-2021 Season Retrospective

Our 2020-2021 season kicked off in September with outdoor, physically-distanced rehearsals at YMCA Camp Weaver. The amazing Warwick Pavilion provided shelter from the sun and the opportunity for all to come together again and make music.

The opening rehearsals were covered by the Greensboro News & Record, and the paper’s photo was picked up for the cover of Symphony magazine!

GSYO ensembles also visited the Haw River State Park Summit Conference Center and the Greensboro Cultural Center before giving the first-ever performances from the stage of the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts.

These were simulcast via direct feed to neighboring LeBauer Park and livestreamed for the world on the GSYO YouTube channel, where they are now archived.

All ensembles also offered online activities, including tutorial videos, livestreamed and archived rehearsals, interactive small group coaching, and guest artists including Katie Geringer (Irish Music), Zlatina Staykova (Bulgarian Music), and Alex Shapiro (Composition and Improvisation.)

GSYO performed a concert cycle of chamber music, with a livestream chamber music marathon in March. The season concluded in May with a spectacular livestreamed performance at the Tanger Center, side-by-side with musicians of the Greensboro Symphony!
