The first auditions for the 2018-2019 season will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, May 19, 2018.

The May audition date is designed for new prospective members, as well as for current members looking to move from Youth Camerata to Youth Philharmonic or Youth Philharmonic to Youth Orchestra.

Current members planning to return in the same ensemble as this season are advised to audition during the main weekend in September. However, those with a conflict on the September weekend are welcome to audition in May.

Audition requirements for May 2018 are the same as in Fall 2017 (including excerpts), and are still posted on this site.

The main weekend of auditions for the 2018-2019 season will be September 7, 9, and 9, 2018. Any updates to audition requirements will be posted by June 8. Audition scheduling will begin July 9.

consider auditioning for the Greensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra!

The Youth Orchestras is a full orchestra of strings, winds, brass and percussion. Recent repertoire has included the ‘Triumphal March’ from Aida (Verdi) Rhapsody in Blue  (Gershwin), Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture (Tchaikovsky), Scheherezade  (Rimsky-Korsakov), Charlie Chaplin’s score to his own silent film ‘The Kid’, Carmen Suite No. 1 (Bizet), and Rusty Air in Carolina  (Mason Bates).

Travel to perform near and far!
In the past six years the Youth Orchestra has performed at the Patio Theater in Chicago and Elizabeth City, Tryon, Albemarle, Lumberton, and Wilmington within North Carolina. All trips include free time with social and cultural activities. Read about the Youth Orchestra’s trip to Chicago.

Make friends who are interested in music and the arts. Youth Orchestra members travel to Greensboro to from Burlington, Raleigh, Durham, Pinehurst, Winston-Salem, and as far as Virginia to participate. If you are looking for an environment that will support your love of music during high school, you will find many like minds among GSYO members.

Perform a solo concerto with a full orchestra! 
If you excel on your instrument, consider the Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition. The Concerto Competition is open to all members of the Youth Orchestra, takes place every year, and the choice of concerto is yours. Up to three winners are selected from a blind audition adjudicated by a panel of Greensboro Symphony Orchestra musicians. The winners perform their concerto selections on a public concert in Winter or Spring.
