Greensboro Symphony Youth Camerata

Overview

Youth Camerata is a string orchestra for students in grades 6 and up who play at the level of Suzuki Books 2 and 3. Students will focus on technical, musical and ensemble skills in an environment with students of similar age and level. Repertoire includes educational arrangements and other works that will both challenge and motivate continued improvement.

Detailed Information

The size of Youth Camerata is between 20 and 30 students. Youth Camerata rehearses Sunday afternoons at the UNCG Music Building, Room 235, 2:00-3:20pm, and gives two public performances per year as well as one additional special event, such as the biannual Crystal Ball. Youth Camerata also participates in a half day of the annual GSYO Fall Retreat. The group does not tour, but students may attend and audit regional clinics (a participating parent/guardian is required). Tuition is $200 per year, and scholarships are available in cases of financial need.

Entry Requirements

Students auditioning for Youth Camerata should:

  • be at the level of Suzuki Book Two or Three.
  • be able to read music in keys including 2 sharps or flats, at the level of their current technique.
  • be able to play in a section (stay together with others, follow a conductor)
