Greensboro Symphony Repertory Strings

Overview

Repertory Strings is a chamber-size string orchestra for students up through grade 11 who are approaching the performance level of the Youth Orchestra and will benefit from further small group instruction before playing standard orchestral repertoire. Students in Repertory Strings will study string parts to full orchestra repertoire and perform string music in original versions. Participation in Repertory Strings is offered once per student, for one year only, and provides preparation to audition for Youth Orchestra the following year.

Detailed Information

Thehe size of Repertory Strings is between 15 and 20 musicians. Repertory Strings rehearses Sunday afternoons at the UNCG Music Building, Room 235, 2:00 – 3:30pm, and performs three public performances per year of their own in Greensboro as well as one special event, such as a performance-based trip. Repertory Strings participates in both days of the annual GSYO Retreat, staying overnight, and members may also participate in the annual GSYO Concerto Competition. Repertory Strings may in some years attend Youth Orchestra tours. Tuition is $250 per year, and scholarships are offered both for merit and in cases of financial need.

Entry Requirements:

Members accepted into Repertory Strings are those who are within one year of practice and private lessons from acceptance to Youth Orchestra, based on the assessment of the audition committee; the audition requirements are the same as for Youth Orchestra.
