The GSYO Retreat is an annual event where the groups gather for a weekend of intense rehearsals and fun activities. GSYO and Youth Philharmonic stay overnight; Youth Strings and Flute Choir join on the second day. The 2009 Retreat has finished. For reference, the directions to Camp Weaver are posted below.

Text directions: From I-85: Take exit 129 for Youngs Mill Rd. (south)

Turn left on Millpoint Rd., follow Millpoint to Tapawingo Trail (has large YMCA Camp Weaver sign)


Arrival and Departure Times:

GSYO and Youth Philharmonic arrive from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 3.

On Sunday, October 4. Flute Choir arrives at retreat at 9:30 a.m., and Youth Strings arrives at 11:30 a.m.

All groups leave at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday October 4.

Members must arrange for their own transportation to and from Camp Weaver.


There is no additional cost for retreat. All meals are included (Dinner, Breakfast, and Lunch for GSYO and Youth Philharmonic; Lunch for Flute Choir and Youth Strings)


What to bring (everyone):

• Musical instrument and case, labeled with your name

  1. Folding music stand, also labeled with your name

  2. All sheet music and a pencil



GSYO and Youth Philharmonic only:

• Pillow and bed linens or sleeping bag

• Towel, washcloth and other personal overnight items

• Casual clothes for rehearsals and recreation

• Recreational items or equipment (basketball, frisbee, etc.)

• Raincoat, umbrella, or jacket

• Comfortable shoes.

• Sunscreen, Flashlight, Insect Repellent, Water Bottle, Hat, Swimsuit/Water Shoes for Canoeing


What NOT to bring:

• Valuable possessions (other than your instrument)

• Skateboards, scooters, or bicycles
