January Seating Auditions
A PDF file of the new string seating is available below. Sectional coaches will also have copies of the new seating. There are no changes in the winds brass or percussion.
Entrance Auditions
Auditions for the 2009-2010 season are now complete. Check back in summer 2010 for 2010-2011 audition information. Following are the 2009-2010 audition requirements. Prospective members should prepare the requirements for the ensemble they wish to join.
Audition Checklist
• Prepare the audition music. The musical requirements for each ensemble are listed below.
• A $15 Audition Fee (cash or check payable to “Friends of the GSYO”) is due at the time of audition.
• Please arrive 15 minutes before your audition time to check in and warm up.
• To save time at auditions, please complete your paperwork in advance.
Audition Requirements
For GSYO:
· One major & one minor scale of your choice [three octaves for violin, viola, and cello, two octaves for other instruments]
· A short piece of your choice
· The GSYO audition excerpt for your instrument. Only prepare the bracketed section(s), not the whole page.
· Percussionists: please prepare the specific requirements listed in the excerpt file
For Youth Philharmonic:
· One major & one minor scale of your choice. Violinists who wish to be considered for Violin I in Youth Philharmonic should prepare three octaves; all others should prepare two octaves.
· A short piece of your choice
· Prepare for a short sightreading example.
For Youth Strings:
· One major & one minor scale of your choice
· A short piece of your choice, from Suzuki Book 3 or a piece of comparable difficulty
· Prepare for a short sightreading example.
An applicant for GSYO may also be considered for Youth Philharmonic or Youth Strings.
For Flute Choir:
· Audition requirements are the same as for flutes for GSYO. All flute applicants will automatically be considered for GSYO and flute choir.
For Allegro Strings:
· Prepare the piece you have played most recently. Auditions for Allegro Strings are friendly and informal; however, all prospective members of Allegro Strings must come to auditions.
